Smocked Doll Dress WIP

Monday January 18, 2010

Hello my dear friends! I am so sorry it has been so long since I posted but real life has gotten in the way...but I have been working on a 18" smocked doll dress and it is turning out beautifully! The second doll I ever made was 24" Molly by Expressions. This was before I knew how to paint the eyes and I was still learning how to sew and when I purchased the dress pattern for this doll, imagine my wonder when it started calling for pleats and smocking....I was at a total loss. I spent days on the computer trying to learn how to do smocking and here is a picture of the results:

After a lot of consideration, I decided to try again but this time, make the 18" Molly and paint her eyes. I am still working on both the doll and the dress but I am just so happy with the way the dress is turning out so far that I wanted to share it with you. So here is a picture of the panels all smocked and ready for assembly:

Today I worked on finishing up adding the piping to the yoke and I attached one of the panels. I am doing this work by hand so that I keep everything neat and straight. I am hoping to have the dress completed by the middle of the week and the doll done by the end of next week. Once she is completed, I will post more pics.

Have a great week everyone!!!
